Record your openings before you choose a window.

Start an estimate with clear opening measurements and note exactly what you measured. These estimating steps do not determine a finished unit's manufacturing size.

Confirm your project path: professional measurement confirms final sizes on installed projects. For material-only orders, you provide the confirmed sizes used for manufacturing; professional measurement is not included. 1 · Width: three measurements

Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of the opening. Openings are rarely perfectly square — three numbers catch that.

2 · Height: three measurements

Same idea vertically: left, center and right.

3 · Keep the smallest of each

The smallest width and the smallest height are your working numbers. Keep the fractions: 35 1/2″ is better information than “about 36”.

4 · Tell us what you measured

Visible frame? Opening after removing trim? Block opening? Each is different — and “not sure” is a valid answer for an initial estimate. On installed projects, professional measurement resolves it. For material-only supply, confirm the required manufacturing size with your qualified installer before placing an order. Never force a guess.
